Small Business Wednesdays-Kusanya Cafe
Greater Englewood CDC
Published: May 14, 2014
Kusanya Café is a model of empowerment and encouragement wrapped inside a comfortable, high quality coffee establishment.
Did you know that Kusanya means to gather, collect or accumulate in Swahili? Kusanya Café acts on that meaning by gathering residents and others from throughout the City and serving up doses of coffee, community and culture. The Kusanya Café experience fuses breakfast and lunch offerings with Yoga nights, performances, and other events as selected by residents.
Kusanya Café presents an interesting model for community and economic development. The café’s 501(c) 3 business structure allows it to be governed by local residents yet operated as a small business. The duality of its business structuring has allowed the café to hire from within Greater Englewood, source locally and establish local partnerships.
Come visit this Greater Englewood jewel! Kusanya Café is located at 825 W.69th Street, Chicago, IL, 60621. Stop in between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday — ask for the Café’s manager Phil. You can also visit Kusanya Café online at kusanyacafe.showitsite.com and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/kusanyacafe.
As part of its Growth 180 initiative, the Greater Englewood CDC promotes local businesses through “Small Business Wednesdays,” a promotion tool intended to highlight and raise the visibility of Greater Englewood Businesses.
