CHICAGO, IL -On Saturday, August 4th, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago – 3rd District) and The Institute For Positive Living will be presenting the 9th Annual Health & Fitness Fair, “Good Health + Good Reading + Good Food = A Better You" hosted by the Illinois Institute of Technology, on the Field north of Crown Hall at 33rd & State St. This free event, which is open to the public, will focus on good health and fitness. Back to bags & supplies, free children & adult books, a 22' inflatable slide, obstacle course and more will be provided throughout the fun-filled day and male students will receive free haircuts from Silk N Classy Barber College.
The 9th Annual Fitness Fair will offer eye and dental examinations; health screenings (HIV, Hepatitis C, diabetes, blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, glucose); and information on nutrition, exercise, and holistic health. A podiatrist and several registered massage therapists will be on board. Guests will be entertained on the Main Entertainment Stage with performances by gospel recording artist Jonathan McReynolds; the World Champion South Shore Drill Team; P.K. Hand Hoola Hoop Expert with a message about how she conquered diabetes; Chi-Town Line Dancers; R&B Artist Vanessa Holmes; DJ Phantom, on-air personality on WGCI & WVAZ Radio and Rebecca Dailey Wooley of Designs by Ruth Quionnes will emcee.
In addition to free health tests and family entertainment, there will be healthy cooking demonstrations and information provided on how to prepare meals for the family. Popular vegetarian/vegan culinary expert, Tsadakeeyah, executive chef and managing partner of Majani Catering™ and urban garden enthusiast will offer food samples and tips on vegetarian/vegan cooking. Fresh fruits and vegetables will be sold by Chi-Town Mobile Produce. There will also be a special air-conditioned Senior Citizen's pavilion inside Siegel Hall that will offer special health screenings, fun activities, and giveaways.
“Good Health + Good Reading + Good Food = A Better You”is presented by Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter, Illinois Institute of Technology, The Institute for Positive Living, ComEd (presenting sponsor) and sponsored by the Chicago Area Project (CAP), The Urban Health Initiative of the University of Chicago, Walgreens, AstraZeneca and the Human Resources Development Institute, Inc. (HRDI).
Senator Hunter is excited to host this free community event this ninth year. She states, “This will be a free community event that all Chicago residents should participate and enjoy.
