"Pocket Change 4 Youth" Launch Campaign at Back-2-School Parade
Imagine Englewood if… and Crossroads Fund Spur Youth Hopes for a Community Center
On August 27, 2011, The Annual Englewood Back-to-School Parade set the stage for the launch of "Pocket Change 4 Youth,” a youth-led campaign for a community youth center in Chicago’s Englewood Community. To raise awareness and garner support for the center, PC4 Youth performed jump-rope and drill routines along the mile-long stretch of the parade. Sponsored by Imagine Englewood if, the youth initiative is made possible by the Crossroads Fund, and commissions them to engage, collaborate and organize the support of other young people for a place where youth and families can come together in a safe and positive environment.
“IEi serves a community that struggles daily with drugs, poverty, gang violence and a host of other socio-economic ills,” stated Mrs. Jean Carter-Hill, IEi’s co-founder and executive director. “But every child has a right be safe, and that’s what these young people are about,” concluded Mrs. Hill.
Leading up to the event, PC4 Youth attended Alderman Willie Cochran’s 20th Ward Back-to-School Picnic in Washington Park the previous Saturday.
