Growing Home, Inc. is a Chicago-based nonprofit with a mission to operate, promote, and demonstrate the use of organic agriculture as a vehicle of job training, employment, and community development. Growing Home operates an on-the-job training program for adults with barriers to employment at its urban farm sites in Englewood on the City's south side as well as at a rural farm in La Salle County. The program includes hands-on horticulture training as well as a classroom curriculum focusing on nutrition, food systems, and job readiness. The Employment Training Program Administrative Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to Growing Home’s Employment Training Program staff, including the Employment Training Manager, Employment Specialist, and Field Training Specialist.
- Assist Employment Training Manager with program recruitment and enrollment tasks such as compiling application and interview packets, coordinating information sessions, scheduling interviews and intakes, responding to selected applicants, collecting eligibility documents, coordinating T.A.B.E. testing, and organizing participant files;
- Organize classroom and office area to reflect a professional and structured demeanor;
- Perform office support tasks (taking calls, sorting mail, placing orders, setting appointments, making copies, drafting correspondences, filing, ordering office supplies);
- Arrange for the repair and maintenance of office and classroom equipment as needed;
- Assist Employment Training Manager in ensuring the compliance of on-site safety and maintenance procedures as needed;
- Assist with special projects, community events, tours and workshops as needed
The Administrative Assistant will work part-time (20 hrs/week) at Growing Home’s Wood Street Urban Farm, located at 5814 S. Wood Street, Chicago, IL 60636. The position will be paid at $12/hr.
