"Violence is a cancer destroying our youth and communities. We must find more productive ways to express our frustration and seek more understanding with each other. The future of our communities depends on the choices we make today.” , Alderman Patricia Dowell.
Residents are invited to see and comment on videos throughout the voting period. The committee will also moderate other events designed to take creative input and update residents throughout the campaign.
The top ten will compete in live showcases in October 2011 for a $2,000 cash scholarship.
The Violence Stops Here Campaign is a collective effort between Alexis-Bivens LTD, the 51st Street Business Association, and HOYCE Youth Center, XtraMedium Communications LLC and supporting brands. The campaign is endorsed by alderman in each community – each with access to the oversight committee.
Rod Sawyer, 6th Ward Alderman, “I Support any group that assists in stopping violence in the community and I applaud this group for trying to curtail violence in the Chatham area.”
This campaign is unique as it uses new media to communicate with participants and periodically reward people online and on the street.
