Description
Growing Home is seeking highly motivated and committed volunteers with demonstrated experience in job readiness and literacy training to assist during our classroom sessions at the Wood St. Urban Farm in Englewood.
Growing Home, Inc. is a Chicago-based nonprofit with a mission to operate, promote, and demonstrate the use of organic agriculture as a vehicle of job training, employment, and community development. Our Employment Training Program runs from April 5th to October 14th and we are looking for individuals to volunteer on Tuesdays and Fridays 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or Wednesdays 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. throughout the duration of the program.
Responsibilities
Provide assistance to Growing Home interns with filling out online applications, creating
cover letters and resumes using Microsoft Word, completing job portfolios, interviewing, and
improving literacy and/or basic computer skills
Qualifications
-At least 1 year experience as a ABE, job readiness, and/or literacy volunteer with a non-profit/social service organization;
-Knowledge of best practice job searching, cover letter/resume writing, filling out onlineapplications and interviewing methods;
-Demonstrated success achieving education goals and objectives with adult learners;
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;
-Ability to follow written and oral instructions well;
-Excellent verbal communication skills;
-Ability to follow through independently on assigned tasks with limited supervision;
-Work responsibly/ethically with sensitive and confidential information;
-Work cooperatively with all GH staff and interns;
