Englewood: Serious business

For once, the news wasn't grim. It wasn't another story about too many crimes and foreclosures and too few jobs and fresh food options.

No, there was good news out of Englewood this year. Derrick Rose, perhaps the neighborhood's most valuable native, was named the NBA's most valuable player—the youngest in league history.

But while Englewood activists told RedEye they were glad for a positive spotlight, they're not ready to celebrate just yet. Though Rose was able to carry his team to the Eastern Conference finals, he won't be able to carry Englewood on his own, community leaders say.
