The Academy of St. Benedict-Stewart is participating in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. This is a school wellness program sponsored by the National Dairy Council and the NFL. The purpose is to encourage students to "Fuel up" with the nutrient-rich foods that they don't get enough of, especially low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
It also motivate kids to be more active and play for at least 60 minutes a day. Getting five to twenty minutes of activity before, during, and after school can add up! Our students have made tremendous strides and have been rewarded. We recently received $3,000 from Fuel Up to Play 60 to support our efforts. We purchased team sports equipment, exercise equipment, and we are looking into purchasing a healthy snack vending machine.
Through Fuel Up To Play 60 our students realize that there is a direct linkage between wellness and preventative diseases. These diseases, mainly obesity, diabetes, and hypertension currently plague our community. Our students are committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle via nutrition and exercise!
