Takin it to the Streets/Peace Rally

Takin’ It to the Streets has always been about inspiring and connecting disconnected communities from Chicago and beyond. For example, Streets 2005 was the occasion for the first meeting between two of the best-known and most-beloved American Muslim intellectuals and activists: Imam Warith Deen Mohammed and Shaykh Hamza Yusuf (pictured right).
The 15th Anniversary Takin’ It to the Streets on Saturday, June 15 will continue in that tradition by opening up with a Summer Peace Rally. Led by the Chicago Peace Movement and the United Congress of Community and Religious Organizations, the Rally will bring together activists and artists that have never before shared the same stage. It will be hosted by Mike Rodriguez from Enlace and Ay-Sha Butler, president of Resident Association of Greater Englewood (R.A.G.E), a recently formed resident-funded and resident-led association.
The Rally will also feature longtime community activist and leader Pastor Phil Jackson from the Lawndale Community Church; educator, activist, and lecturer Imam Suhaib Webb from the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center; respected and influential American Muslim scholarImam Zaid Shakir of Zaytuna College; longtime social activist Father Michael Pfleger of Saint Sabina church; the religious and spiritual leader of Harlem's Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood Imam Talib ‘Abdur-Rashid; four-time HBO Def Poet and co-founder of Louder Than a Bomb Kevin Coval; and Grammy-winning hip-hop artist and activist Rhymefest-Che Smith.
Don't miss the Peace Rally! Plan to be at Marquette Park on Saturday, June 15th by 10 AM to get a good seat at another history-in-the-making moment.
