I would like to invite you to attend my information session entitled, Property Tax: Only My Fair Share. It will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Kroc Community Center, 1250 W. 119th Street, Chicago. During this meeting, we want to hear your experiences regarding your property tax assessment. In addition, experts will provide an overview of how property taxes are assessed in Cook County and offer recommendations for how inequities in the process can be fixed. Attendees are encouraged to bring their most recent property tax bill.
Property tax analysis reveals that the tax assessment of many homes in Cook County is considerably overvalued. This means many homeowners in my District are assessed, year after year, at a higher value than they should be, leaving them with a disproportionate amount of the tax burden. The County’s property tax appeals process offers an opportunity for some tax relief. That is why I recently held a Property Tax Appeal Forum, giving my constituents an opportunity to appeal their property tax assessment. The response to this invitation was overwhelming with over 500 constituents attending. Nevertheless, this persistent problem of overvaluing homes requires further examination.
Please feel free to share this opportunity with your friends and neighbors. You may RSVP by e-mail at congressmanrushdistrictevents@mail.house.gov. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact my staff at (773) 779-2400.
